Stanley Michael “Stan” Proaps, 56, of Vega, died, Monday, Feb. 27, 2012.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 in First Baptist Church of Vega. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Stan was born March 6, 1955 in La Junta, CO to Sherman and Rose Proaps. He was raised in Colorado where he raised hogs with his father. He married Teresa McKendree on Sept. 25, 1978 and had five children. They moved to Vega in 1991 where he worked for Hereford Grain and later, with the help of a friend, Len Fisher, started in the pizza business. He continued in the restaurant business until his death.
Mr. Proaps loved serving as municipal judge in Vega and used his office to testify of the love, mercy and justice that God had shown him.
He lived most of his life not on popular practices, but on Biblical truths, as best as any man could. He was a good father, husband, and friend to many. He rejoiced over other’s triumphs, genuinely cared about other’s grief and rarely considered his own self. He went to be with the Almighty Father on Feb. 27, 2012. He loved his Savior and the Word of God, the only things he put more importance on than this family. He will be sorely missed by the family and friends that were so positively influenced by his life.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Proaps, of Vega; his father and step-mother, Sherman and Freda Proaps of Crowley, CO; five children, Levi Proaps and wife Dawn of Wellington, Larissa Adams and husband John of Spring, TX, Charlotte Lopez and husband John of Miami, TX, Ivy Proaps and Charles Proaps, both of the home; a grandson, Patrick Lopez; two sisters, Gail Lee and Nancy Proaps, both of Colorado.
Viewing will be on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
