Melba Carter-June 14, 2011

Melba Carter, 75, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Pastor Jim Gianoutsos, former pastor of Amarillo Bible Church, now of Lakepoint Church in Humble, TX officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the West Park Cemetery in Hereford.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Carter was born on November 1, 1935 in Calico Rock, Arkansas to William and Susan Stoner.  She was a foster mother to over 250 children for over seventeen years.  She was a wonderful housewife who loved and helped everyone she could; she was a true neighbor to all.  Mrs. Carter was also a brown belt in Jujitsu.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Carter, Sr., two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Carter and Thomas James Carter, Jr. and two grandchildren, Thomas James “Trey” Carter III and Briana Briggs.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Johnson and husband Ronnie of Borger, Kathleen Ellis and husband Todd of Amarillo and Kelly Phillips of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Josie Johnson, Darian Johnson, Bailey Johnson, Michala Johnson, Logan Ellis and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
