Mary Alice Gilbert, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, January 7, 2019.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019, in the chapel at The Continental with Rev. Robbie Barrett, associate pastor at First Baptist Church officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary Alice Gilbert was born on September 7, 1934, to Spencer and Dot Carter in Lancaster, South Carolina.   Mary met the love of her life, Harry Gilbert on a blind date in 1953.  They were married on April 16, 1955, in Lancaster, South Carolina.   They moved to Paducah, Kentucky for Harry to pursue his education.   She accompanied Harry from Kentucky to Ohio, to Kansas, to Colorado, to Indiana, and back to Kentucky over the course of their marriage.   Giving birth to Barry Gerald Gilbert and Harry Stephen Gilbert along the way.   Mary worked as the office manager for Kentucky Automotive Wholesalers Association for many years.  She and Harry retired to western Kentucky in 1987, residing at their dream farm at Kentucky Lake.   “Sweet Thing” and Harry moved one last time to Amarillo, Texas in January 2017.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth “Dot” Carter, her father, Spencer Carter.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Charles Gilbert; her son, Barry Gerald Gilbert and wife Amy, of Amarillo; her son, Harry Stephen Gilbert and wife Mindy, of Richmond, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jeremy Gilbert and wife Emily, of Amarillo, Stephen Gilbert, of Amarillo, Allison Looper, of Amarillo, Samuel Gilbert, of Lexington, Kentucky, Stephen Spencer Gilbert, of Lexington,and Kailey Gilbert, of Richmond; and two great-grandchildren, James and Maggie Gilbert, of Amarillo.

The family will receive visitors at 6114 Jameson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Operation Christmas Child.
