Joe Ben Brown, 86, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Rd., with the Rev. Clay Brown, senior pastor, officiating.  Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Joe Ben was born March 31, 1927, in Durant, Oklahoma to Joseph Benjamin and Thelma “Dot” Legg Brown.  He grew up in Amarillo.  He attended grade and junior high school in Amarillo.  For two years, he attended Peacock Military School, in San Antonio.  He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945.  He served in the Army.  A T5 Corporal, he served in Germany with the 78th Division and 16th Constabulary during World War II.  He was retired from Mason and Hanger Silas Mason Company, Pantex Plant.  He worked as a supervisor there for 35 years.

Joe Ben married his high school sweetheart, Ann Kline, in 1948, in Amarillo.  Joe was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sunporch Sunday school class, and the Amarillo Genealogical Society.  He enjoyed square dancing with Ye Ole Squares Dance Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Amarillo; a son, Gary L. Brown, M.D. and wife Jennifer, of Amarillo; two sisters, Jeannine Lockwood, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Prudence Gaudion, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Shirley Gibbons, of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Paige Brown Fielding and husband Trace of Dallas and Bradley Brown of Amarillo; a grandson, Sawyer Kliesen, of Amarillo; a great-grandson, Cannon Fielding, of Dallas; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.
