Chet Kearns, 80, of Amarillo, died Sunday, August 14, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Palisades Baptist Church with Larry Richardson officiating. Military rites are by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Kearns was born on March 21, 1931 in Amarillo, TX to Clarence and Mary Johnson Kearns. He served his country for twenty years and one day as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Kearns worked all of his life as a mechanic. He retired from Scottco then opened and operated DNE Produce for fifteen years. He loved going to auctions and watching wrestling. When he was young he had the opportunity to carry Gorgeous George’s wrestling robe. He married Joyce Mason on October 21, 1985 in Las Vegas, NV.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Kearns, of the home; daughters, Linda Morrison and husband Stan, Frances Hibbs and husband Mike, and Mary Finley and husband Coy, all of Amarillo, TX; son, William Kearns and wife Shelly, also of Amarillo, TX; step daughter, Tammy Butcher and husband Christopher of New York; son, Terry Tompkins and wife Kathy of La Junta, CO; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
