Michael Cameron Hodges, M.D. – September 25, 2017

Cameron was born in Corsicana, TX on October 28, 1970, and entered His Father’s Kingdom on September 25, 2017.  Cameron grew up in Bolivar, MO and graduated from Bolivar High School in 1989.
Cameron attended University of Missouri Medical School in Kansas City, MO where he graduated in 1995 with his medical degree.  He completed his General Surgery residency in 2000.  His surgery practice took him to Missouri and Iowa before moving to Amarillo, TX in 2012, where he opened Hodges Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery.
Cameron was a well-respected and talented surgeon who will be remembered as much for his humor and engaging personality as for his skill in the operating room.  He was loved and will be missed by his patients and his colleagues.
As gifted as Cameron was as a surgeon, anyone who knew Cameron will remember most of all his love for his family.
Cameron and his wife, Geralyn Schell Hodges, met in medical school and married in 1994.  They loved each other deeply and shared a wonderful love story.  They had four beautiful children, Ryan Gregory Hodges, Grace Elizabeth Hodges, Louis “Luke” Michael Hodges, and Caleb Cameron Hodges.  Cameron was a wonderful father who loved his children so much.  He was incredibly proud of each one of them and shared stories about each of them with friends and patients alike.
Cameron will be deeply missed, for he was deeply loved.
He is survived by his wife and children as well as his parents, Larry and Nancy Hodges (Bolivar, MO) and his brother and sister-in-law, Shannon and Cynthia Hodges (Pasco, WA).
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.  For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.”  Thess. 4:13-14
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, in the chapel at Hillside Christian Church, West Campus, 6100 Soncy, with Chris Condit officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Children of Michael Cameron Hodges, in care of Amarillo National Bank, P.O. Box 1, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Dr hodges thank you for giving me my life back. if I hadant had met you I wouldn’t be where I’am today. Prayers for peace and comfort for your family and loved ones. Thank you for praying with me before taking me back to surgery, when I saw tears in your eyes I knew I was going to be ok! I told you to be careful as I was crying, and you just chuckled at me and said I will, you are in good hands. I’m very sorry this had to happen. You will be forever missed!

I pray that your family finds the peace, strength, and comfort needed to move forward through this. I’m so grateful for all you did for me. I promise you that I will not let you down, I will not let your hard work, for me, be for nothing. You gave me my life back, I intend to make that mean something. Thank you so very much.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Dr Hodges changed my life and I will forever be grateful. I now enjoy life to the fullest and it is only because of his talent and care . I can now run and play with my grandchildren and do things I would have never been able to. I can’t even begin to imagine how many other lives he changed. His compassion and love for his patients will leave a void that not many physicians could ever fill. Thank you Dr. Hodges. Every time I do something I wouldn’t be able to do, I will think of you. • Marcy McGinnis Posted September 28, 2017 10:38 am

Words are just not enough. Dr. Hodges changed MY life, as I know he did so many others’. He gave me hope. It is rare to find a doctor in today’s busy world that treats you as if you are his ONLY patient at that moment. As wonderful a physician he was, he had to have been an even more wonderful person. Prayers for all who love him, as well as peace, patience, and understanding in the days/weeks/months/years to come.

  • Allison Bromwell FNP Posted September 28, 2017 4:29 pm

I had only been an RN for 2 years when I began working with Dr. Hodges at NWTH. He was one of the handful of surgeons who really chose to get to know all of the nurses and respected us as colleagues. He encouraged me to go back to school, and because of him and few other very memorable surgeons, I became a Family Nurse Practitioner. He will be deeply missed by the medical community and others he touched. Prayers for his precious family whom I know he loved so much.

  • Ynai Hamilton Posted September 29, 2017 11:14 am

People are in your life for a reason. You may not know why but they are – even if it is just a season. Dr. Hodges was a cool doctor with me. The first time I saw him as a client, he was very quiet. The first thing that came to my mind was – Oh here we go, I’m not going to like him very well. Well I guess that is not true, every time I came to see him my hair was different. I guess that amused him because he would ask me every time I saw him what was next. He literally changed my life and for the better. For that I will love him dearly. He even came to visit me even when he had nothing to do with why I was sick. I just saw him a week ago and he was playing around with me, gave me a hug and said I would not need to see him anymore—just yearly. I have lost almost 150 pounds because of this man. I no longer have diabetes because of this man. To see someone one day and the next they are gone…He will truly be missed… Just wanted you to know he is and will always be a very special person to me!!!

  • Mary Devers Posted September 29, 2017 11:28 am

Please know that many, like myself, will always remember Cameron as a truly unique, funny, intelligent and caring friend. When I tell my boys stories of growing up here in Bolivar, Cameron is in many of them! A great Halloween party at the Hodge’s house, a house rabbit, skipping school to go to the Hodges house to watch a movie, Mrs. Smashey’s math classes, setting a few fires behind their house, and maybe an incident with a bow & arrow. I have a great picture of Cameron smoking (kind of) one of my dad’s cigars – it’s my favorite! My prayers are with all of the family – may God comfort you in the days to come!

  • Gary Smith Posted September 29, 2017 12:36 pm

Dear Geralyn, Ryan, Grace, Luke, Caleb, Hodges family and the Schell family. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. It has been 15 years since we have seen each other. Cameron had taken a position in Hannibal, Mo. and I had to quit working myself. You once made me a “Debbies Garden” journal of my life of being a day care provider, which, of course, I was blessed having Ryan and Gracie in my care. You are in our thoughts quite often since my journal has been sitting on a mantel ever since. the love that was shown from yourself and Cameron for your children made Ryan and Gracie blessed. I am forever sorry that I had not taken care of your younger two children but knowing you both, they are blessed just the same. I still love you and know that God is with you always.
Debbie, John, Katie, Nick, and Greg
