Micaela Flores, 87, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013.
Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in St. Laurence Catholic Church with Father Felipe Alvarez as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Micaela was born July 10, 1926, in Saltillo, Mexico, to Canuto and Maria Tovar. She was a homemaker.
At an early age, Micaela and her husband immigrated to the United States from Mexico, seeking a better life for them and their children. She loved and served as a Guadalupana at St. Laurence Catholic Church. With her strong spiritual relationship with God, the family prospered. Her dreams of a better life for her children were realized. During the week, she attended Jan Werner Senior Center, where she formed strong bonds with the members and staff.
Micaela Flores leaves this world, but her love and generosity remains.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patricio; Seven siblings; and a granddaughter, Jessica Flores.
Survivors include six sons, Juan Flores of Sugarland, Arturo Flores, Patricio Flores, Jr., and Joe Louis Flores, all of Amarillo, Javier Flores of Dumas and Sisto Flores of San Francisco; six daughters, Gloria Flores of Garland, Lydia Ruiz of Amarillo, Carmen Rodriguez of Albuquerque, N.M., Rebeca Gomez of Dumas, Berta Lopez of Corpus Christi and Micaela “Mickey” Flores of Mesquite; a brother, Gregorio Tovar of Mexico; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
