Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mal was born on January 14, 1931 in Big Spring, Texas to Mildred and Ernest McGill. Mildred later married Albert Woods. Mal went to school and graduated in Stephenville, Texas.
He came to Amarillo and was hired by Southwestern Bell. He was drafted into the army in 1951 and served three years. He then returned to his job in Amarillo with the telephone company. He retired from Ma Bell after 39 years of service.
Malcolm married Fay Chandler after he returned from the army. They had three boys and one girl. They were divorced and Fay moved to Albuquerque with the children.
Mal later married Joann Lane Stephens who had two children. Mal and Joann had one son together.
Mal loved sports of all kinds. He bowled and played golf with the telephone company league for many years.
Mal was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Woods; stepfather, Albert Woods; stepbrother, Boyde Woods; stepsister, Lucille Brown; and two sons, Michael Woods and Bradley Woods.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Woods; brother, Ernest Woods and wife Betty of Arlington; sons, Monty and wife Rae Woods and Billy Woods of Albuquerque; stepson, Steve Stephens and wife Linda of Amarillo; two daughters, Cindy and husband Matthew Kouri of Albuquerque; and stepdaughter, Rhonda Sudbury and husband Jim of Amarillo.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Woods home, 3706 Linda Dr.
