Juan Gamez Calvo – November 13, 2012

Juan Gamez Calvo, 63, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.
Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Jose Gomez as celebrant.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Calvo was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Raymondsville.  He married Elsa Salgado on Feb. 14, 2004 in Amarillo.  Mr. Calvo worked as a supervisor for the city of Amarillo in the Solid Waste Department for over 33 years until his retirement.
He was a hard worker, a talented welder and always worked from sun up til sun down. He loved working on cars and inventing great things. He was a jack of all trades who loved to travel, fish, hike and camp.
He was preceded in death by a son, Juan Calvo, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Elsa Calvo of Amarillo; two daughters, Dolores Diaz and husband Michael and Mary Gomez and husband Jason, all of Amarillo; two sons, Daniel Calvo and Miguel Calvo, both of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Pacheco and Mary Cruz Pacheco, both of Amarillo; a stepson, Oscar Pacheco of Amarillo; and 6 grandchildren, Michael II, Madison, Nicole, Dominic, Johnathon, J.J and several extended family members in Lubbock.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
