Orva Joe Henry

Orva Joe Henry, 83, died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Ware Nursing Home following an illness.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Robby  Barrett officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Lajean (Latham) Henry, his daughter Melissa (Henry) Jones, granddaughters Tracy Leeann Myers, Renee Michelle Lamb, Samantha Christine Merten, and great-grandkids Rylie Brianne Wilson, Haylie Nicole Wilson, Zackary Henry Myers and Emma Jo Lamb, and sisters Lana White and Betty Pitts and many, many close friends.  He is preceded in death with daughter Dana Merten, a brother James and a sister, Cheryl Schiller.

Born and raised in Happy, Texas, the eldest of Orva Odis (O.O.) and Leona Henry.  Except for attending Texas Tech in Lubbock Texas and six years of living in Moriarty, NM he and Lajean have resided in Hereford, TX until 2008 when they moved to Amarillo, TX.

He met his wife on a blind date while they both were attending Texas Tech and proposed to her in Elwood Park in Amarillo.  They were married in Hereford, TX.

After receiving his degree in Agronomy at Texas Tech, they moved to Hereford and farmed.

He was awarded with Farmer of the Year while living in Moriarty, was on the Deaf Smith County hospital board, and was administrator of the Fellowship of Believers Church but his greatest accomplishment was being the best husband, father and PePaw in the world.
