Joan Kirkland Wagner – September 17, 2012

Joan Kirkland Wagner, 76, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Wyley Chaney, associate minister of Hollywood Road Community Church, officiating.  Arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Joan was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Lakeview to Curtis and Carrie Kirkland.  She was a graduate of Quail High School.  She married her high school sweetheart, Weldon Dale Johnson of Quail and after high school they moved to Amarillo, and she began her career with Bell Telephone and had three children over the years.  Dale and Joan celebrated many years of life-long friendship until his death in 2008.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she spent most of her life in farming and ranching and real estate investment properties.  In her free time, she had a passion for collecting dolls, antiques and toy tractors.
Joan Kirkland Wagner left this earth to take up residence in the home that her Heavenly Father prepared for her.  Joan saw firsthand that the “valley of the shadow of death” was truly only a shadow, just as our Savior promised to all those who love Him.  Isaiah 60:20 gives us a glimpse of our Heavenly Home.  It says, “the sun shall no more go down, nor shall the moon withdraw its self because the Lord shall be your everlasting light, and the days of mourning shall be ended.”
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bobby Dale Johnson; a grandson, LB Ross Johnson; a sister, Georgia Forkner; and a brother, James Kirkland.
Survivors include a son, Ricky Dean Johnson and fiancée Lynda Tilden of Amarillo; a daughter, Dianne Johnson Nugent of Frisco; two sisters, Joyce Walter and husband Walt of Amarillo and Barbara Escamilla and husband Floyd of San Antonio; a brother, Cleo Kirkland of Amarillo; grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Dustin Johnson, all of Amarillo, Crickett Linker and husband Dustin of Lubbock and Whitney Cannon and fiancé Chad Restovich of Irving, TX; seven great-grandchildren; and life-long friend and sister-in-law, Norma Kirkland of Amarillo.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at the funeral home.
