Dorothy Laverne Walker, 89, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in First Baptist Church chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Dorothy was born June 12, 1924, in Amarillo, to Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Walker. She graduated from Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. For fifty years, Dorothy worked with the youth and international students at First Baptist Church leading many of them to Christ.
When World War II broke out she and her father went to work at the Pantex plant and worked until the war ended. She went to work at Russell Stationary and later worked for Whitney Printing Company and went back to the Pantex plant and worked in the purchasing office.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Grady Lee Walker and James Samuel Walker; a sister, Ruby Lois Walker Ridenour; and a nephew, James Leonard Walker.
Survivors include a wonderful brother-in-law, Robert Ridenour; two nieces; a great-nephew; a great-niece; and a precious friend, Mrs. Winnie Moore.
