Doris Jean Fowler Cain – February 24, 2018

Doris Jean Fowler Cain, age 85, slipped away, peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2018.  She was born on June 29, 1932 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Edna Hanning Fowler and Earl Fowler.  She lived in Borger and Amarillo.  She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950.  Our family rejoices that she is alive in the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, our dad, Bill Cain, married for 57 years, who preceded her in death, 9½ years ago.
Mom was primarily a homemaker, always being a mom to us kids. She was homeroom, team mom, Girl Scout leader and was always there for us when we got home from school.  This was a treasure to us.  Our parents traveled extensively for 15 years in their motor home, traveling most of the summer and into the fall.  Together, they visited most of the US including Alaska and Canada.  Most of the grandkids had fun traveling with them to faraway places.  As a team, they had fun and explored other cities with their crafts business after dad retired.  Mom made it a priority to share her faith and relationship with the Lord, our God and she instilled that same faith in all of us, and the grandkids.  As children, our most fond memories are camping at many lakes, boating, waterskiing, cooking together over an open fire, hiking and spending quality time together as a family.  She loved music, sang to us all the time, and always played the special birthday record album to wake us up on our birthdays.
Doris is survived by her four children, their spouses, ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way) and many devoted nieces and nephews. Children are Michael and wife Brenda Cain, Lynda and husband Kevin McCarty, Christina and husband Allen Hadaway, Galen and wife Doreen Cain.
Arrangements are with Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors and a memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday morning, February 27, 2018, at 11 am at Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel, 1401 S. Polk Street, Amarillo, TX officiated by Reverend Kevin Deckard. All are welcome to celebrate mom’s life at the service and a short reception following in the PSUMC parlor.
The family wishes to thank Maria, with the Visiting Angels, The Craig Assisted Living and many others who helped us care for her in the last few weeks. Memorials can be sent to Sharing Hope Ministries, 2300 South West 7th Avenue, Amarillo, TX  79106.
