Billy Joe “B.J.” King, 83, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in The Church at Quail Creek with Rev. Dale Moreland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
B.J. was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Hemphill County, to Callie and St. Elmo Murray King, Jr. He earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Computer Science at West Texas State University. B.J. served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Irene Kirschenmann on Feb. 25, 1951, in Hettinger, NC. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2010.
He worked as chief administrator for Bureau of Mines Helium. B.J. was the marshal at Comanche Trails Golf Course during his retirement years. He was a member of The Church at Quail Creek.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John L. King.
Survivors include a daughter, Nita Cobb and husband Jim of Euless; four sons, Rocky King and Anne Baker of Mesa AZ, Monte King and wife Jan of Cordell, OK, Ron King and wife Caprice of Monument, CO and Brady King of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters, Martha Serafin of Richardson and Joyce West of Kokomo, IN; two brothers, Harold King of Cypress and James King of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, Aaron “A.J.”, Adriane, Timothy, Elizabeth, Casey, Abigal, Elizabeth, Preston and Aubrey; and twelve great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Karis, Anissa, Drew, James, Parker, Bentley, Witten, Hollis, Noah, Malacki, and Zach.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at the funeral home.
