Alpha Lee Stidham Shepherd – August 1, 2016

Shepherd Obit PicAlpha Lee Stidham Shepherd, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 1, 2016.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at Central Church of Christ Chapel.  Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Alpha was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Okmulgee, Okla. to Mowry and Moneka Stidham.  She graduated from the original Amarillo High School in 1948.  Alpha married D.W. “Shep” Shepherd on Oct. 29, 1961, in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar Guild.  Together they had one child, Karen Shepherd White.

She attended the University of New Mexico where she became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.  She loved to research her genealogy and American history and working all kinds of puzzles.  She was a member of the Arredondo Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution and Amarillo Genealogical Society.  She was a past member of Girl Scout Council of Amarillo, the Amarillo Civic Chorus, and Amarillo Symphony Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Shepherd; a stepdaughter, Linda Smith; and a stepson, Ronny Shepherd.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen and husband Steve White, of Amarillo; a sister, Cindy Stidham Reid, of Amarillo; two brothers, David Stidham and wife Nora Jones Stidham, of Amarillo and William M. Stidham of Salmon, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Shepherd; a stepson, Michael Shepherd and wife, Ruth Anne; grandchildren, Mason and Abby White, Dena Bell, Col. John Smith, Glenda Ghozeil, Cass Smith, Cheryl Snyder, Billy Shepherd, Kenneth Shepherd, Daniel Shepherd and Taylor Shepherd; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Christian Relief Fund, 1501 SW 58th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79110.

    Karen, I was your mom’s chaplain until my retirement last year. Just want to let you know, again, what an awesome job you did of caregiving. I’m remembering those puzzles and, was it a special table you used to put them together on?
