Garcia Obit PicAlfred R. Garcia, Sr., 67, of Amarillo, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with his son, The Very Reverend Monsignor Alfred Garcia Jr. presiding.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Alfred was born in Logan, New Mexico on April 20, 1946 to John Fermin Garcia and Nicolasita Cordova Garcia. He married Mary Helen Angel on June 7, 1969 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He worked over twenty years for Montfort Meats in Cactus, Texas and was instrumental in working with the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Local 540 and establishing its presence in the Panhandle of Texas.  He was a member of the Dumas Knights of Columbus Council 5061 and a lifelong member of the Confraternidad del Sagrado Corazon of San Antonio Catholic Church in Logan, New Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Fermin and Nicolasita Cordova Garcia, and one brother Santiago Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; his four children, Alfred Jr. of Dallas, Angela Michelle Garcia and Melissa Annette Garcia de la Cruz, both of Amarillo and Jordean Gabriella Garcia,  of the home; 9 grandchildren; 4 sisters; 6 brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relative.
