Yvonne McCracken

Yvonne McCracken, 94, of Amarillo, TX. Died on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Memorial services will be held at 11.00 A.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. The burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Yvonne was born February 12, 1925, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Delma and William Ruel Bailey. She married Charles Robert (Bob) McCracken in 1946, and moved to Amarillo, Texas. Yvonne was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, being in the group of people who began this church. She was married to Bob for 66 years.

Yvonne raised two sons in a home filled with warmth and love. She was a home-maker extraordinaire. She baked delicious sour dough bread each week for over 50 years. Yvonne was an artist who painted beautiful paintings and china. She was active in serving her community through St. Paul UMC, Khiva Shrine, Amarillo Museum of Art, and teaching Art Therapy at the Pavilion. Yvonne loved to dance beginning in childhood and continuing throughout her life. She had many hobbies including bridge club, investment club, art lessons, gardening, baking, making peach preserves, sewing, and Red Hats Club. Yvonne loved life and was a woman whose faith was shown through her actions, service, and generosity toward people throughout her life.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Bob McCracken.

She is survived by her two sons Terry McCracken and wife Cyndy of Grapevine, Texas, and Dan McCracken and wife Julie of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Bryan McCracken and wife Marjorie, Molly White and husband Ross, Katy Pair and husband Steve, Kelly McDowell and husband Robert, Patrick McCracken and wife Beth; ten great-grandchildren; nieces, Barbara Read and husband Dave; Dr. Amber Read Zamilpa, and Mrs. Crystal Wohle; and nephew, Dr. Doug Read.

The family thanks Sandra Vasquez of Sandra’s place, and BSA Hospice of the Southwest who cared for Yvonne with much love and attention.

  1. Our prayers go out to the McCracken family sons Terry and Dan. I believe my brother Dale and I were ins Scouts with Terry and Danny at ST Paul Methodist Church and my parents Dwight and Mary Alice Elliott were good couple friends. Bob was a nice guy and Yvonne what else could you say that hasn’t already been said of her.
