Willie Lee Smith – July 2, 2001

Willie Lee Smith, 89, formerly of Dumas died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, in Ruston, Louisiana.
Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Rev. Brad Foster, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Northlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dumas.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
She was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on December 27, 1921.  She married Duel Smith on May 6, 1940 in Oklahoma.  She previously lived in Dumas for 55 years before moving to Ruston, LA four years ago.
Willie as always the “Rock of the Family” always there when they needed her and loved them dearly.
God was always her strength.  She loved her church and the many friendships she established while there.
Willie loved to make quilts for her family and also loved making hand made cross bookmarks. A special thanks to Faye Edwards and Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas for the many cards and letters she sent to Willie while she lived in Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977.
Survivors include her children Glenda Odom and husband Joe of Riverton, Wyoming; Ed and wife Judy Smith of Amarillo, Texas; Ronnie and wife Marsha Smith of Talequah, Oklahoma; Barbara and husband Bill Moss of Ruston, Louisiana; Frankie and wife Nancy Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; and Jackie and husband Rian Smith of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; brothers, Willard Brittain of Oklahoma City; Bobby Brittain and Eldon Brittain; sisters Billy Fitzgerald, Sue Moore and Shirley Weaver, all of Holdenville, OK; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her special little dog Chi-Chi.
The family would like to express their thanks for all of the prayers, cards and calls.  Thanks to the doctor and staff at Northeast Louisiana Medical Center for their care of Willie and their concern for the family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will be at 3617 Eddy in Amarillo.

  2. I am so sorry I cannot attend Aunt Willie’s service. She was a quiet,sweet lady and I know you will all miss her. You will find comfort in the fact that she is now in a better place and I am sure that she, Uncle Dude, Dad and Mom will be having some fun together. All my love to all of you, Charles

  4. Willie was a wonderful sister in Christ. Although she moved away from us, she was always near to our hearts. God bless you in your time of loss.

  5. May the Lord bless each of you greatly in this time of loss. I learned this week the scripture for a time like this for children is John 14:18 – 20 “I will not leave you as orphans”.
