William W. Sherwood – June 13, 2012


William W. Sherwood, 79, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating.  Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Sherwood was born April 3, 1933, in Eldorado, OK to Henry and “Pete” Sherwood.  He graduated from Hollis High School then attended OK A&M before being drafted into the Army.  After his time in the service earned his degree in finance from West Texas State.  Mr. Sherwood held multiple positions with Santa Fe Energy retiring as their treasurer.  He then purchased Uniforms Unique which he operated for 20 years.  Mr. Sherwood was a deacon and longtime member of the choir at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Marilyn Sherwood, of the home; a son, Brent Sherwood of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Kay Sherwood of Amarillo; two stepsons, Eric Beck of Acworth, Georgia and Robert Beck of Dallas; four grandchildren, Matt Sherwood and wife Robin, and Dan Sherwood and wife Megan, all of Amarillo, Andrew Tanner Beck of McAllen and Jimmy Dean Davis of Acworth, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Sherwood and William Edward Sherwood; and special friends, Don and Venita Hopson of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 1208 Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or to Gideons International, P.O. Box 2304, Amarillo, TX 79105.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at the funeral home.
