William “Bill” Forrest Ford, 82, of Amarillo, TX died January 11, 2020.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Military rites are provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Bill was born October 22, 1937, in McPherson, KS to William and Florence Ford. In 1954, he was the Amarillo High representative at the National Junior Golf Tournament where he lost to Jack Nicklaus. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955. He served in the Army from 1956-1958 in Korea. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Western in 1963, and his master’s at Texas Tech University in 1967. Bill did his doctoral studies at the University of Iowa.
Bill taught history at Southwest Louisiana University at Lafayette. He also worked in advertising.
Survivors include three daughters, Julie Copple, of Dallas, TX, Laura Ford, of Lewisville, TX, and Rebecca Abercrombie and husband Rob, of Huntsville, AL; a sister, Mary Ellen Finnegan, of Houston; former wife, Moselle Ford, of Amarillo, TX; and four grandchildren, Will Copple, Caroline Copple, Ford Abercrombie, and Elle Abercrombie.
