Wilbur Harris, 87, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Jeremy Pfeil and Ricky Pfeil officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Wilbur was born September 7, 1933, in Claude, TX to Hardy and Delia Harris.  In 1952, he graduated from Adrian High School.  Wilbur joined the Army on May 26, 1955 and went through boot camp at Fort Ord, CA and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and was honorably discharged on May 24, 1957.

He worked from 1959 to 1961, he worked at the Phillips 66 Service Station.  For sixteen years Wilbur worked at Loveless Oil in Adrian.  From 1977 to 1993, he worked in Amarillo for Oil Transport from which he retired.

Wilbur enjoyed water skiing and camping.  He and Pearline enjoyed traveling after their retirement.  He also enjoyed Boy Scout specials, refereeing at Junior High basketball games, woodworking, and dogs.  Wilbur will be remembered fondly for wearing his shorts and boots at all family reunions.

Wilbur helped organize the Adrian Volunteer Fire Department and served on it until his move to Amarillo.  He helped obtain funds and start the Adrian Volunteer Ambulance Service and served as driver until his move to Amarillo.  Wilbur was active in the Adrian School FFA and was an honorary member of the Adrian FFA.  Wilbur also served on the Adrian City Council for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel “Pearline” Shuyler Harris; parents, Hardy and Delia Harris; brothers, James Overton Harris and wife Lola Imogene Harris, and Freddy Lee Harris; a son, Randall Kevin Harris; and two grandsons, Matthew DeWayne Harris and Brenton Joe Brogdon.

Survivors include his dog, Toby; children, Ersel Harris and wife Maria, of Amarillo, TX, Richard Harris and wife Julie of Adrian, TX, Brenda Godbey and husband Jeff, of Adrian, Debbie Kinsey and husband Montie, of Vega, TX; and Kelly Harris and wife Tina, of Amarillo, TX; brothers and sisters, Bascom Tedo Harris, of Adrian, Joe Bubby Harris and wife Lola of Sandy, UT, Mildred Petty and husband R. Lee of Adrian, TX, Donna Larkan and husband Orville, of Amarillo, TX; sister-in-law, Florene Harris, of Winchester, KY; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

  4. Prayers and condolences to the entire Harris family. Have many fond memories of Wilbur as a youth and teen. Especially when he would let me ride with him to fight a fire.
