Weldon Ray Southerland – November 6, 2011


Weldon Ray Southerland, 60, of Amarillo died on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at BSA Hospice after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Southerland chose cremation by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. and at his request, no memorial service will be held at this time.
Mr. Southerland was born November 28, 1950 in Tulia, the youngest child of Claude Southerland and Delcie Berry Southerland.
Mr. Southerland was a trailer mechanic from the age of 19 until his illness in October, 2009.  He was a good and honorable man, deeply cherished by his family, loved by his friends and respected by those who needed a helping hand.  He was raised Church of Christ and had a deep and abiding love and faith in God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Burl and George; his sister, Linda and sister-in-law, Bobbie Southerland.
Survivors include his wife of forty-one years, Cathy; two daughters, Lisa Southerland Simmons and Dana Southerland Ham; his son-in-law, Christopher Ham; seven grandchildren, Sean Simmons and wife Samantha, Ryan Simmons and girl friend Laura Moncada, Kelly Simmons, Courtney, Christina, Caden and Kiley Ham; two great grandsons, Devin and Patrick Simmons; his mother-in-law, Louise Ortega and her companion, Billy Nivens and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of BSA Hospital and the wonderful nurses of BSA Hospice for their tireless care during Mr. Southerland’s illness.
