Wayne Richardson – June 30, 2011

Wayne Richardson, 79, of Vega died on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Vega with Don Allred, officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega.
Wayne was born on September 9, 1931 in Allison, Texas to Cruce and Edna Richardson.  He owned and operated Richardson Seed from 1955 to 1992.  He married Carolyn Slutz on December 5, 1992.  Wayne served on the Vega School Board for twenty-nine years and had served as Mayor.  He also served as Past President for the Texas Seed Trade Association.  Wayne was an avid golfer and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vega.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mike Richardson and one grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Richardson of Vega; two sons, Jack Richardson and wife Paula of Amarillo and Larry Richardson and wife Monica of Vega; a daughter, Shirley Sutton and husband Scott of Amarillo; a brother, Don Richardson of Vega; a sister, JoAnne Cook of Vega; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church at Vega, Texas 79092.
Viewing will be from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers at Vega.

Larry & Monica, Ken &and I came to Vega Sunday to see you and were told by the new Methodist preacher and the young man that waited our table that there is NO funeral home in Vega – I’m sorry we missed you! John Moss sent his condolences- he said Wayne was very kind to him when he started in the business and that his Dad- , T. Moss, and Wayne were great friends. I appreciated Wayne for all the hard work he put into saving the Ogalala and always enjoyed visiting with him. He will be missed!

  4. My Uncle Wayne will be truely missed! He was a very kind man,a good father.Everybody loved Wayne and he will alway’s have good memories in my mind. My heart goes out to Wayne’s kid’s Jack,Shirley,and Larry and grandchilren Jlyn,Les,Racheal,and Sharise.God Bless all of you!
