Wayne L. Owings – February 25, 2011

Wayne L. Owings, 69, of Amarillo, died Friday, February 25, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 in Hillside Christian Church with the Reverend Jerry Hopkins officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Wayne was born on January 5, 1942 in Redwood City, California to Roy and Inez Hawk Owings. 
Wayne served in the U.S. Airforce from 1960 to 1964.  While stationed at Biggs Airforce Base, he met Myra Combs and they were married on November 23, 1963 in El Paso, Texas. 
 He was in the clothing industry for almost 20 years.  After Levi Strauss, he and his friend, Fred Maddux, owned Mow Commercial Mowing, then Wayne owned a small chain of convenience stores under the name Cig-Mart before retiring. 
 He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Wayne was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Chance Allen Witcher.
 Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Myra Owings, of the home; a son, Shaun Owings and wife Lanita; a daughter, Dawn Witcher and husband Brian, all of Amarillo;  five grandchildren, Trenton K. and Brooke Owings, Carlie, Christy and Cole Witcher; a great-grandson, Caiden Owings Robinson; a brother, Paul Owings and wife Rouge of Branson, Missouri; sisters, Joyce Vitzthum and husband Cy of Springfield, Missouri, Joanne Charron and husband Doug of Minnesota, and Jeannie Purdom and husband Richard of El Dorado, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
