Virginia Smith Light, 92 (until 11/27/2020), of Amarillo died September 24, 2020.

Private graveside services for her life will be at  in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Light was born November 25, 1927, in Booker, Texas to Hazel and John Smith. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945.

She was married to Jack Virgil Light in 1947 in the old downtown First Christian Church by Dr. Roy Snodgrass. They shared a lifetime of love and commitment to community volunteer services including more than 20 years at BSA Hospice.

Their greatest joy was anything that their five precious granddaughters, Randee, Crystal, Amanda, Jordan and Madison were involved in.

She loved her Lord and served him faithfully for over 60 years through First Christian Church in all capacities including, organizing members of the U and I Sunday School class, Chairman of the Congregation and General Board, volunteer gardener, and the Sanctuary and Happy Timers choirs.

Some of the other organizations and roles that Mrs. Light volunteered for included the PTA for many years, volunteer and Leader for Camp Fire Girls, Executive Director for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Coordinator for the annual Beef-A-Thon fund raiser, Coordinator for the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree, and was on the Life Time Advisory Board for the Salvation Army.

Survivors include her three sons, Kenneth and Elaine Light and family of Liberty Hill, Jack and Liz Light and family of Amarillo and Sleshi Meketa of Grapevine; and a daughter, Jenni and Rick Salazar and family of Bedford. She was also the grandmother for 5 granddaughters and 1 great granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Olivia’s Angels, BSA Hospice P.O. Box 950 Amarillo, TX 79105.
