Virginia Hale – November 21, 2011

Virginia Hale, 96, of North Richland Hills, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Vega with Jim Watkins officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega, 110 Main.
Virginia Lee Watkins was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on January 15, 1915 to James and Lou Watkins. She spent her early years on the family farm near Checotah, Oklahoma. The family lived four years in Edinburg, Texas and in 1928 the family moved to Vega.  Virginia graduated from Vega High School two years early and received her degree from Business College in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  On July 2nd, 1937, Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Austin G. “Buzz” Hale. They had three sons, James 1938 (died in infancy), David 1942 both born in Amarillo and Richard 1946 born in Lamar, Colorado. The family returned to Vega in 1951 where they farmed and also owned and operated Hale’s Market. In 1961, they sold the store and Virginia went to work for the Sherriff’s office. She was elected County Tax Assessor for several terms and later worked as the Assistant to the County Justice of the Peace until she retired at the age of 77, just prior to Buzz’s death in March of 1992. Virginia lived in Vega until 2007, when she moved to Ft. Worth to be near her sons. She died peacefully there on Monday, November 21, 2011.  Virginia was a member of First United Methodist Church of Vega. She loved Jesus all of her life and did her best to honor him.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buzz, two sons James and David. Also preceding her were two brothers, one sister, one daughter-in-law, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
She is survived by one grateful son Richard, daughter-in-law Jean, three granddaughters, three great grandsons, two great great granddaughters and three close nieces and four nephews.
