Virginia E. Self, 87, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 in Amarillo.
Private family services were held. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
She was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Michigan. As a young woman she attended college, served at the Pentagon, and lived in Alaska. She fell in love with Cecil V. Self of Roy, NM and they spent many content years together. Cecil preceded her in death in 1982.
Virginia loved music and was an accomplished pianist, happily donating her talent to many churches and social functions. She assisted in teaching elementary school children in New Mexico schools for most of her working career. She loved helping others and although she was a survivor of the Great Depression, Virginia had little interest in material possessions.
She is survived by her three sons and their families, Walt and Lee of Rio Rancho, NM, Patrick of Amarillo, and Victor and Tammy of Piedmont, OK. She has six grandchildren that she deeply loved. She will be genuinely missed by friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, 804 Quail Creek, Amarillo, TX 79124, in her memory.
