Virginia Ann Graham Dunklin Wherry – October 21, 2012


Virginia Ann Graham Dunklin Wherry, 88, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at First Christian Church with Barry Loving officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Virginia was born Dec. 10, 1923 in Breckenridge to John Henry Graham and Virginia Ellen Smith Graham.  She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1942, and took courses at Texas Christian University.  Until her marriage to Donavan Duane Dunklin in 1945, she was employed at General Dynamics in Fort Worth.  He preceded her in death in 1974.
Virginia was active in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) all of her life.  She was a member of the Ruth Group and worked with the church’s bazaar, as well as serving as a chairwoman of the deaconesses.  While raising her children she was active in PTA, Campfire Girls, and teaching Sunday school.
She worked part time at Fred Gleason’s Optical Dispensary.  In 1987, Virginia married Gerald L. Wherry.  Mr. and Mrs. Wherry enjoyed time with their children, working in the church and traveling for many rewarding years.  Gerald Wherry was a loving and caring companion throughout her later years.
She also is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Wherry of Amarillo; a son, Bill Dunklin and wife Meg of Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Donna Dunklin of Tucson, Arizona, Kathryn Bell and husband John, and Claudia Dunklin, all of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Nancy Stark, and husband Greg of Carrollton and Ruthie Wherry of Hurst; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Music Fund, 3001 Wolflin Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79109.
