Valarie “Val” Joyce (Dial) Henneman, a long-time Amarillo, TX resident, passed into the arms of Jesus on April 28, 2021.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
She was born on February 5, 1933, in Lakeview, TX to Murray and Clytie Dial. She graduated from Farwell High School, class of 1950, as Valedictorian and was voted, “Most Likely to Succeed”. She was involved in many activities including starting forward for the basketball team where she excelled in free throws, even though she was only 5’2; she participated in Interscholastic competitions in shorthand and typing, was in the cast of several plays, and was given a scholarship to a business school.
She married her high school sweetheart, A.C. Henneman on September 3, 1950.
Valarie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Ronny and Benjy. She is survived by her daughter Vicki Palmer and husband Kent, their twin sons, Blake Palmer and Brent, and wife Erin Palmer; son, Scott Henneman; sister, Gloria Hightower, and husband Tommy; sisters-in-law Laquita Dial and Phyllis Dial; and many nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.
Organization was Val’s middle name, and she was a fastidious housekeeper. She loved people and being a secretary, which was her lifelong career and passion. She began her secretarial career with Hugo Loewenstern Agency and also served as a chapter secretary for the Texas Independent Insurance Agents of the Panhandle with 41 years of dedicated service.
Valarie served as Executive Secretary for over 21 years and twice received the Outstanding Service Award for loyalty and dedicated service to the Panhandle Chapter of Texas Society CPA’s.
Val and her husband A.C. were life members of the Southwest chapter of AMBUC, a non-profit service organization that is dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. Valarie served as chapter Executive Secretary for 33 years and achieved over 40 years of perfect attendance.
Val demanded self-perfection in everything she did. She was an excellent “straw boss’’, overseeing her family’s work and lives, ever encouraging and pushing them to be all they could be. Her inner strength allowed her to fight and beat breast cancer!
Val was an active member of Paramount Baptist Church and went on mission trips both in the U.S., such as the Papago Indian Reservation in AZ, and abroad in Seoul, South Korea.
Valarie’s passion was working, but she also loved to travel, going on cruises, and visiting their time-share properties.
The family requests memorials are sent to the Amarillo Southwest chapter of AMBUCS.

  1. Hello Vicki, I am Julie Newton McLaughlin from Tulsa, Ok. My mother was Louise Cunningham Newton, my aunt Clytie’s twin sister. Gloria emailed me about your mother’s passing. I wish we had known her and the rest of the Dial family better but my mother lived overseas, married my father, Cal, in Tokyo, Japan and they settled in the Oklahoma City area when they returned to the states when I was 9 years old. Sadly, we only travelled down to Texas a few times to visit all of you. I keep in touch with Gloria but would have loved to have known my Dial cousins. Please accept my sympathy to you and your family.

    1. I am so glad to hear from you! I inherited a set of pearls that belonged to my grandmother, Clytie. She told me that Cal brought them back to her from Japan. We usually get to OKC at least once a year for the OU football games. My husband was born in OKC and is a huge OU fan! I would love to be able to meet you sometime!!! My email address is: [email protected]. I appreciate your sympathies and am glad you reached out!

  2. I was so sad to hear of Val’s passing but so happy she is no longer suffering. I will always cherish all her lady years I spent being her Beauty Operator & making sure she looked BEAUTIFUL when she left my shop! It was nice to read about all her life’s accomplishments & how active she was before she moved into Memory Care where I met her. It does not surprise me @ all that she was a “perfectionist” in her life. I will miss the laughter & fun times I spent with her @ her weekly visits in my shop! She was a hoot & kept me busy laughing every time I saw her. Thanks for the beautiful message you sent me in the mail Vicki❤️! I will cherish it! God bless you & your family 🙏🏽!

    1. You were a total blessing to my mom. All my life, mom was very frugal. The one luxury she afforded herself was a weekly visit to the beauty shop to have her hair professionally done. We were thrilled to know that luxury didn’t have to stop while in memory care! You took excellent care of Val, always making sure she looked beautiful. That’s one ministry that people tend to take for granted or overlook. I’m very grateful for your service to her!!

  3. I just found out today that she had passed. Of the twelve of us that traveled together, their are now four of us. So sad when you think about it but we can cherish the great memories we have of times spent together. Please know that your family is in my thoughts at this time. Amarillo, Ambucs and PBC are still some of the best years of my life and many of those times were spent with Val and A.,C,

    1. Thank you, Cloie!! It’s very sad to see my mother go, but she wanted to go with my dad 14 years ago, so am sure she is very happy now!

  4. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. I loved reading her obituary and learning things I didn’t know about Val. It’s funny that I’ve known her all my life, through our parents, but never knew she played basketball. We lost our mom last month, and it’s so hard to be without her, but I rejoice knowing what great friends are already in heaven waiting to greet them. Soon, all of them will be together! I will keep your families in my prayers.

  5. We have many fond memories of Val and Ace from our AMBUC days. Our sympathies, prayers and love go out to the family.
