Toshiko “Kitty” Brown, 77, of Amarillo died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Bob Schroeder of Hillside Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Kitty was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Fukuoka, Japan to Dokan and Sada Yamano. She attended schools in Japan and was also trained in classical Japanese dance.
During the Korean War, she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Brown, who was a U.S. Navy aviation mechanic in Sasebo, Japan. On Aug. 12, 1955, they were married in Fukuoka. They moved to the United States in 1956 and ultimately to Amarillo in 1970. She was very proud of her U.S. Citizenship, which she diligently worked to earn in 1966.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to taking care of her family. What she loved most was watching her kids and grandkids participate in their various sports and activities. An avid sports fan, she rarely missed watching the Dallas Cowboys or Tiger Woods. She also enjoyed her time working with Cal Farley Boys Ranch on their annual fundraising campaigns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and two sisters, Mechiko and Fusae.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and wife UiSon of Phoenix, Randy and wife Karen of Herndon, Va., and Jessy and wife Karen of Amarillo; a daughter, Mechiko “Mickey” Jameson and husband Hank of Fritch; six grandchildren, Cecelia Brown and boyfriend, Mario Faison, Jessica Brown, Kacey Brown, Darek Brown, Nicholas Shelton and girlfriend Saje Hough and Bailey Jameson; two great-grandchildren, Marcus and Marley Pickett; two brothers and a sister, Sadao, Masaji and Chiko, all of Japan; a sister-in-law, Charlene Cosby of Amarillo; and her two special furry friends, Scruffy and Joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
