Tom “Tommy” Cook, 88, of Amarillo, TX passed away on June 18, 2020. Tom was born in Reed, OK on November 1, 1931 to Heflin and Myrtle Cook of Reed, OK.

He graduated from Reed High School in 1949. The Oklahoma National Guard was mobilized, and he served two years in Korea in the United States Army. He returned to Oklahoma and married Ann Zinn on December 19, 1953. They moved to Dumas, TX in July of 1954 where he worked for Shamrock Oil & Gas until 1964. Tom and Ann opened Cook Floor Covering, where he installed floor coverings all over the Texas Panhandle. They moved to Amarillo in May of 1975 and opened The Smoke Shop. Tom made pipes and flavored his own tobaccos until he retired in 2005.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Jim, and a son Tommy.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Cook, of 66 years; three sons, Terry and wife Cindy of Sachse, TX, Michael and wife Susan of Glen Carbon, IL, and Greg of Amarillo TX; 10 grandchildren, Kyle and wife Jamie of Cave Springs, AR, Kelly and wife April of Dallas, TX, Kimberly Allen and husband Mark of Aledo, TX, Jennifer Courson and husband Tommy of Garland, TX, Teriann Tidwell and husband Josh of Lavon, TX, Jeff and wife Ashley of Nevada, TX, Melanie Farris and husband Darren of Brock, TX, Jolee Hotop and husband Keith of Grapevine, TX, Jenae McHugh and husband Andre of Amarillo, TX, and Brett of Conroe, TX; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Llano Cemetery on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Celebration of life will be at First Baptist Church in Amarillo, TX at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

    I was sad to hear this news of Tom’s death last year. I’m just now getting this news. This Kenny, Bill and Lena’s grandson and Kenneth and Anita’s son. Feel free to reach out to me. I have left contact info below. Not quite sure how to reach you.

  2. Ann and family. I just became aware of Tom’s passing. My sincere condolences to you and the family. Being here in McKinney, L am out of the loop regarding the friends from back home. I loved Tom and will miss him greatly. May God bless each of you. Bob
