Thomas Otho (Toby) Gardner, 83, of Amarillo, TX went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2019, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Johnnie Thomason of Accelerate Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Toby was born in Amarillo to James Lee Gardner, and Alice Gertrude Gardner, on February 29, 1936.  He attended Boy’s Ranch near Amarillo from 1948 to 1950, and developed a lifelong connection to the Ranch, where he donated to, and attended, the annual Boy’s Ranch Rodeo for many years.  He attended high school in San Antonio.  He married his beloved wife Ellen Ruth (nee) Davis on April 6, 1956, at his oldest brother Lee’s home in San Lorenzo, CA.  He worked most of his adult life in the building trades as a drywall finisher.

Toby is preceded in death by brothers Lee and Gene, as well as sisters Flo, Ruth, Betty, and Roberta.  He is also preceded in death by his grandson Matthew James Gardner of Pilot Point, TX, who he is joyfully “hugging the neck” of now.

Toby is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ellen Ruth Gardner of Amarillo, sons Thomas Lee (Toby), and Timothy Randall (Tim) and Tim’s wife Kimberley of Amarillo, sisters Myrna of Albuquerque, Nancy of Houston, and Treva of Houston.  Granddaughter Bethany Ruth Gardner of Amarillo, and many nieces and nephews.

Toby’s greatest joy in life was providing for and doting on his adoring family.  He loved spending time with his sons and made time for them with countless hours of watching and enjoying sports, especially football.

The Gardner family humbly request that any donations made be sent to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch on behalf of Toby.
