Thomas Henry McClellan "Tom"


Thomas Henry McClellan “Tom”, 88, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church Paul Frederiksen officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. McClellan was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Austin, TX.  He graduated from Austin High School and the University of Texas.  He married Elizabeth Wyatt on Dec. 16, 1950, and felt very blessed to have 62 years with Elizabeth, the love of his life.
He served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1944-1946.  Once discharged, he returned to UT where he graduated with a BBA degree in Accounting.
He worked for Texaco then Earl McMillian Ford in Houston, TX.  He moved to Amarillo, TX in October 1950 to work for Don McMillian Ford (later known as Amarillo Motors then Sid Stout Ford).  In September 1977, he opened Tom McClellan Ford where he worked until he retired in January 1982.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served on various committees, taught Sunday school, was a deacon and an elder.   He loved attending football games for the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas.  He enjoyed bowling, car races, travelling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Amarillo; three children: Tom McClellan, Jr. and wife Nola of Plano, TX, Gail Cartwright and husband David of Amarillo, and Cindy Smith and husband Jim of Amarillo; four grandchildren:  A. J. McClellan of Dallas, TX, Ben Cartwright and wife Ashley of Denver, CO, Byron Smith and wife Amy of Marietta, GA, and Kira Smith of Oxford, England; three great-granddaughters: Leanna, Adalyn and Kathryn Smith of Marietta, GA.
His final wish was for those he left behind to not grieve for him, but to rejoice because his body is whole again and he is now in paradise with his Lord and Savior.
The family suggest memorials be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home, 3400 Bowie Street Amarillo, TX 79109; Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Drive, Suite 110, Amarillo, TX  79106; or to your favorite charity.
