In spite of Thayne’s battle with cancer, he possessed a fantastic sense of humor and enjoyed making people smile.  Thayne loved to cook and garden.  He was a master wood turner, woodworker, and was an employee for the Happy Toy Maker for seven years.  Thayne appreciated the outdoors, loved the ranch life, was an avid fisherman and committed hunter.  He graduated from Canyon High School in 2014, WTAM University in December 2019 with a Bachelor of Science and Animal Science degree.  In May 2019, he participated in a Study Abroad program in Australia.

Our Thayne was courageous and faced every challenge head on.  He gave his all in everything he did.  Thayne always put others concerns above his own.  He was the most genuine and honest young man a person could meet.  Thayne was deeply convicted of his faith, in God, and His plan for him.  His presence will be deeply missed.

  1. I was Thayne’s freshman composition teacher at WT. I remember him talking about his fondness for Elmer Kelton, the Western writer (“He puts Louis L’Amour to shame,” he said) and how he rescued a cricket that had gotten into the computer lab and was driving us all crazy. Mainly what I remember about him, and why I remember him so well, is that he struck me as a truly good, kind-hearted person. I had just moved to Texas at the time, and he was the kind of young man who makes you think: “Things will be fine, because the folks here are A-Ok.” To the Slater family, I am so sorry for your loss; clearly Thayne meant so much to all the people who knew him.
