Stuart Gerald Watson, 70, of Amarillo died on Friday, July 13, 2012.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Stan Cosby and Dr. Jim Smith, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Watson was born on January 15, 1942 in Slaton, Texas to Herbert and Laura Watson. He married Barbara Phillips on August 4, 1962 in Abernathy. He earned his BS and ME degrees from West Texas State University. He taught at Avondale for twenty-one years; was assistant principal at San Jacinto for two years and principal at Humphrey’s Highland for fourteen years. Mr. Watson was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, and was a very active member in the John Mark Sunday school class. He was an avid golfer, member of the OFCC, and he loved the Texas Rangers and fishing.
Gerald Watson was a devoted family man. He was married to the love of his life for 50 years. He was a wonderful daddy and Papa who loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. He was known within his family as Uncle Gerry. His ornery pranks made everyone laugh, from his friends and coworkers to his family. He was a very generous man and loyal friend.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Watson of Amarillo; a son, Gregory Stuart Watson and wife Melody of Rapid City, South Dakota; a daughter, Jennifer Watson Pohlmeier and husband Curt of Amarillo; a son, Jeffrey Lane Watson and wife Candy of Amarillo; two sisters, Shirley Manley and husband Leon of Stephenville, Texas and Nancy Monk and Donnie Adams of Tahoka, Texas; four grandchildren, Brooke Pohlmeier, Braden Pohlmeier, John Watson and Olivia Watson.
The family suggests memorials be made to OUR KIDS-OUR FUTURE at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western, Amarillo, TX 79109.
A visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
