Saundra Penn, 75, of Amarillo, TX passed from this life on March 29, 2020.

There will be a private graveside service on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Llano Cemetery officiated by Gene Shelburne from Anna Street Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Saundra Sue Penn was born December 15, 1944 to Ilva and Clinton Richburg in the driveway of Goodall Hospital in Memphis, TX. Her unusual arrival was talked about for the remainder of her life.

She was a member of Anna Street Church of Christ and attended until her health prevented her from doing so. She was baptized when she was 16 years old.

She grew up and went to school in Estelline, TX graduating in May of 1964. She then went on to obtain an Associate Degree from Clarendon College and then on to West Texas State College. She worked at Goodwill for several years where she met Eugene Penn and they were married January 16, 1971 in Panhandle, TX. After the two were married she went to work for

Potter-Randall Appraisal District and worked there until her retirement in 2001. Gene passed away on February 18, 2007.

Saundra was an accomplished artist and quilting was one of her forms of art. She also loved playing with the computer. After her retirement, she spent many hours making quilts which became her passion.  She was always looking for new patterns and ideas for quilts. She loved making quilted items as gifts and many people were the recipients of her art.

She is survived by a brother, Lowell Richburg, of Mt. Pleasant, TX; a sister, Julia Browder, of Amarillo; three nieces, Dayna Emery, of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Penni Ortega and husband Tom, and Misti Sena and husband Henry, all of Amarillo; a nephew, Paul Browder and wife Sonia, of Elgin, TX; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

  1. Saundra was one of my very first friend. We played together in the cool basement at her home outside Estelline. She was a sweet girl. Janie Buchanan.
