Samuel Edward Rhoades

Samuel Edward Rhoades, 26, of Amarillo, TX passed away January 27, 2020.

Samuel Edward Rhoades was born August 29th, 1993 and passed away January 27th, 2020. He was 26.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 3, 2020, at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Chapel, with Mike Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Samuel was a gifted athlete and earned numerous medals for his accomplishments in cross country, track and basketball. As a boy, he loved fishing and family vacations. As he grew older, Samuel developed a love for writing poetry and songs. Samuel was also an avid reader. Among his favorite books were, “Man’s Search for Meaning” and “The Prophet”. Samuel studied philosophy which fed his deep curiosity about life and human behavior. He was especially fond of the work of Alan Watts. Sam had a beautiful mind and a deep capacity for thought and human observation. His curiosity about the world inspired those around him to never take anything at face value and to always ask questions and learn more. He was dearly loved by those closest to him and we will miss his smile, his keen sense of humor, his probing questions and the way he reciprocated the love he received in his unique and beautiful manner.

Samuel is survived by his daughter, Rylee Rhoades of Azle; father and mother, Glenn and Julie Rhoades of Goldthwaite; brothers, Glendon Rhoades and wife Zara of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Ross Rhoades and wife Belen of Paradise; sister, Jessica Taylor and husband Mike of Goldthwaite; grandmother, Peggy Wolfe; grandparents, Richard and Cherry Wolfe; great-grandmother, Ruby Wolfe; nieces, Lydia Taylor and Aliyah Rhoades; nephew, Jaxon Taylor; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Samuel is also survived by his Boys Ranch family of the heart including:  Dan Adams, Debby Holeman, Karen Keith, Kim Reeves, Roger and Leah Thorn, Bobby Strong and Josh Reynolds.

In honor of Sam’s memory, donations may be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch.

  1. Samuel it was always nice to see you smile and enjoy those around you. You had a quite bbn presence always observed those around you. It was a treat to know you.

  2. Sam will always remember you as a young man who had a purpose but didn’t like math but refused to let it stop you. “I have fought the good fight”

    We shared a common bond in that we both loved the movie CARS. “I have finished the race”

  4. I remember Sam when he started coming to The Parc. He was a smart soul. Loved talking to him, and getting to know him.
