Sammie A. Sims, 82, of Amarillo died on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Bob Schroeder officiating. Military rites are by DAV Chapter #26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Sims was born on February 18, 1930 in Childress, Texas to Sam and Theola Sims. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a Golden Glove boxing champion. He was employed at Texaco Refinery and later at Pantex from 1963 until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Sims was a member of the Pioneer Prominaders square dance club and Hillside Christian Church.
He married Lois Thompson in 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Don Sims.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Sims of Amarillo; a son, Steve Sims and wife Joanie of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Shane Sims and wife Sommer, and Dexter Sims; two step grandchildren, Megan Beasley and husband Ryan, and Levi Speer and wife Jori; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Plainview.
