Ruth Marlys Russell Hickmott, 86, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Ruth was born in Panhandle and moved to Amarillo in 1939. She went to school in Happy and Canyon after starting her school days at a little country school in Arney, between Happy and Nazareth.
Ruth married Edward William Hickmott on Dec. 24, 1941, in Amarillo. Ed and Ruth volunteered for Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels. They raised their family at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
Ruth served our country during World War II by working at Pantex. She served the city of Amarillo by driving the bookmobile. She served Potter County in the county clerk’s office, where she retired from the position of chief deputy clerk after 23 years of service.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elmo, Dale and Ross; two sisters, Clara and Nettie; and her husband, Ed.
She is survived by her son, Bill and his family; daughters, Phyllis and Gary Shewbert, and Nancy and Gary Blades, all of Amarillo, and Gail and Glen Nelson of Owasso, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
