Rose Elaine Livingston, 91, of Amarillo, TX peacefully passed from this earth and entered her eternal home on September 2, 2020.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., at the First Baptist Chapel, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, with Corky Holland officiating. A private burial will precede the memorial service at Llano Cemetery led by Dr. Howard K. Batson. Arrangements are made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Rose was born on May 7, 1929 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the parents of Charles and Eula Lewis. She grew up, along with her three brothers, in a loving Christian home. In her formative years, Rose developed a love for music and acquired a love and skill for playing the piano. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she majored in music education and furthered her learning by attaining a Masters in Piano Performance at Louisiana State University.

Rose used her skills and passion for music to become a teacher at elementary schools. While teaching music at a school in Lawton, Oklahoma she met Ira Livingston, who was stationed at Fort Sill. They eventually married and Ira became an orthopedic surgeon. Together, they were an amazing couple who would impact so many people through the future years.

As a doctor’s wife, Rose was a loving, calming, and steady support for Ira. They moved to Amarillo, along with their 3 children, in August of 1965. She was an incredible mother to Sharon, Steve, and Lori. She was always the mom who would be there to take the kids, along with all of their friends, to the places they needed to go. She loved all her children’s friends and never missed an opportunity to display love and acceptance to whoever entered her home. She and Ira faithfully modeled and taught the love of Jesus to their children.

She was a devoted servant of Christ and a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Her love for worship opened doors for her to be the pianist for worship services, and in her later years, the pianist for the senior adult choir, The Heritage Singers. Her greatest impact however was being the director for 35 years for the Young Musician Choir. In this ministry she led a choir for 4th-6th graders. Many of these countless kids were impacted by her direction and as a result, developed a love for the Lord through music. Her impact was immeasurable!

Through the years of her life, Rose always displayed kindness to her children and grandchildren. She was generous with her resources and had the greatest skill of being an excellent listener. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ira Livingston. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Livingston of Amarillo, and Lori Pollard and husband Chris of Arlington; son, Steve Livingston and wife Barbara of Amarillo; and 4 grandchildren, Shea, Camille, Berkley, and Brooke.

The family would especially like to thank the staff and family of First Baptist Church for their love and ministry to Rose through the years.
