Richard was born Feb. 25, 1940, in San Antonio, to Robert Henry Birchfield and Bettie Rose Kerr Birchfield, who lived in Boerne then. Richard attended Amarillo public schools and graduated from Amarillo High School where he played in the school orchestra. Richard loved music and playing the piano and was an avid letter-writer. He was a kind and easy-going person who always greeted you with a smile. He was a good listener because he was interested in other people and was a loyal friend. He especially loved his little dog, Woody, and they spent many happy hours together.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
