On Thursday, August 6th, 2020, Rebecca Sue Hilton, a loving mother of two daughters, passed away at the age of 61.

Rebecca was born on December 9, 1958, in Canyon, Texas. She was a divorced, devoted mother of two beautiful girls. Dashalani Chen Hilton, age 18, and Lelani Rou Hilton, age 14.

Rebecca graduated from Canyon High School in 1977. She played flute in the Canyon High School Band and was a member of the first flag team that Canyon High School had. Immediately following high school, Rebecca went to serve our country by joining the Navy. She was in active duty for four years and stationed in Japan where she learned the Japanese language and the intricate art of Origami, especially paper Cranes. She continued for 16 more years in the Naval Reserve before retiring.

Rebecca had various jobs and loved delivering Meal on Wheels. Rebecca loved helping others and was always volunteering her services. Rebecca was a trusted postal worker employed by the United States Postal Service for twenty-seven years where she made many friends and repeat customers because of her helpfulness and cheerfulness.

Rebecca’s greatest joy was her daughters. She looked forward to the outings, vacations, and adventures they shared together. She was always exploring new places for them to go. She and her daughters loved making origami objects and animals for friends and family. They would bake cookies, candy, and cakes, and shared them with Rebecca’s mom, Mildred Freeman, who is currently in assisted living. Every Christmas, they made several plates of goodies to share with family at our annual Family Christmas.

Rebecca earned a degree in Electronics from Amarillo College. She was a certified massage therapist and also had the talent of belly dancing. Rebecca was an avid reader. She went to many book sales and her home was filled with books, novels, and cookbooks. Her love of music included the artist, John Denver.

Rebecca was not only admired by her co-workers, family, and friends, but by all who knew her. She was fun to be around and known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and her kindness and compassionate spirit.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Bunio Clayton Freeman.

She is survived by her two children, Dasha and Lelani; her mother, Mildred Elizabeth Freeman; her brother, David Michael Freeman, and wife Margaret; his two children, Michael Freeman and Amanda Freeman; sister, Sharon Annette Stevens and husband Joe Don; their two daughters, Andrea Keller and husband William, and Jennifer Colette and husband David; one aunt, Evelyn Louise Soule; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

The time and date will be announced later.

Dasha and Lelani are Rebecca’s precious angels, and now she is their Guardian Angel.

  3. Rebecca was a kind sweet lady. I knew her as a fellow postal worker and member of PSUMC. I always made me happy seeing her and the girls at church in their spot in the balcony. Nothing prepares us for death, especially like this. Prayers for peace and strength.
