Ray Martin Davis, 66, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 8, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2012 in Llano Cemetery with Loren Brand officiating. Military Rites are by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Davis was born in Victoria to Shelly and JoBeth Davis. At the age of five, Mr. Davis and family moved to Amarillo where he attended school until joining the Army in 1964. Mr. Davis served four years in the Army doing one tour in Vietnam.
On returning home to Amarillo, Mr. Davis went to work as a barber for Bill Sell’s until going to work for Asarco, Amarillo Copper Refinery, in the security department. On retiring from Asarco, Mr. Davis attended Amarillo College Law Enforcement Academy. Upon graduating Amarillo College, Mr. Davis went to work for Carson County Sheriff’s Department where he would work until retiring as Chief Deputy.
During Mr. Davis’ brief retirement from Carson County Sheriff’s Department, he joined Amarillo Police Department. Mr. Davis returned to Carson County Sheriff Department until retiring in 2005 to work for Amarillo College Police Department where he was employed until retiring in 2011and being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Mr. Davis passed away after battling lung cancer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Peggy Joyce Davis; three children, Johnny Ray Davis, Ricky Dale Davis, and Patricia JoBell Davis-Holt, all of Pampa; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Edwin Davis of California; and a sister, Mari Beth Davis of Amarillo.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
