Peggy Carroll Simmons, 85, of Amarillo died on Friday, June 17, 2011.
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Llano Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Park Place Towers Parlor with Jerry Bell officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Peggy was born on February 17, 1926 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Henry and Irene Carroll. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and moved to Amarillo in 1946. She married Donald C. Simmons on December 11, 1943 in Albuquerque, NM. She was in the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter FM, where she held many positions and was very active. Peggy was also a volunteer for St. Anthony’s Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was an avid bridge player and taught five year old Sunday School at First Baptist Church for thirteen years. Peggy and Donald were bus escorts for Continental Trailways bus tours. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Simmons.
Survivors include a son, Donald Simmons, Jr. and wife Linda of Shreveport, LA; a daughter, Debby Petronis and husband Joe of Lampasas, TX; five grandchildren, Amie Plumley and husband Eric of Memphis, TN, Joe Petronis and wife Mary of Austin, TX, Joby Petronis of St. Paul, MN, Whitney Simmons of Shreveport, LA and Ben Simmons and wife Claire of Shreveport, LA; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
