Olin Cosby, 89, of Canyon, TX died September 15, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 18, 2020, at Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. Private burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Olin Cosby was born on May 18, 1931, in Borger, Texas the first-born son of Clarence and Lottie Bell Cosby. Following his graduation from Hereford High School in 1948, he attended West Texas State College where he met the love of his life, Betty Thomson. Olin and Betty were married on January 21, 1951. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming January. Olin received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas in 1957.

Raising their five children in the Christian faith was the most important goal of this godly couple. Olin was an active leader in the church as well as a gifted Sunday School teacher. Faithful tithing was a very important part of his witness for Christ. In the summer of 1971, Olin felt the call to fulltime Christian ministry and moved to Wilmore, Kentucky to attend Asbury Theological Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Asbury in 1974 and then served two United Methodist churches at Kress and Olton. Later, he returned to his job at Pantex to continue his career of twenty-plus years.

Olin was a member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church where their son, Dr. Stan Cosby, was Senior Pastor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a younger brother, Layne.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Canyon; his sister, Theora Bertish, of Palm Coast, Florida; his two sons, Stan Cosby and wife Susan, of Hedley, and Ron Cosby and wife Kim, of Canyon; his three daughters, Sharla McClendon and husband Lance, of Weatherford, Lisa Neinast and husband Jeff, of Olton, and Lori Bailey and husband Bryan, of Lake Tanglewood; 17 grandchildren, David Cosby, Carmen Cosby, Nanci Cosby, Tasha Finke, Taylor Cosby, Travis Cosby, Chris Wood, Heather Lopez, Zach Wood, Blake Neinast, Brittnee Street, Tanner Neinast, John Lee Dellis, Jadee Dellis, Jace Dellis, Alex Bailey, and Jack Bailey; 23 great-grandchildren; and 3 ½ great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

  1. Very sad to lose your Father and husband! It really just flat stinks! Take comfort He lived life well putting Our Heavenly Father first and the rest fell right into place. What a Honor to have been able to care for your parents Stan! I cared for mine and recently lost my Great Father. Sincere prayers for the family will continue! I’m grateful I had the blessing to attend Stans sermons!

  2. Sorry I couldn’t be there for the service. Our family has know yours gor a long time. I can remember your Dad when we went to church in Canyon and Kingswood in Amarillo. Such a wonderful family. My prayers go outvto all of you during this time. God bless you all.

    We cherish our memories of Olin and all of you at Panhandle FUMC. Betty, you and Olin were such a godly example of a couple devoted first to God, then to each other and then to family.

  5. What a glorious day for Mr Cosby to be able to touch the face of Jesus. It is never easy losing a loved one no matter their age. But we sure can rejoice in knowing we will be together again. Having loved ones in Heaven makes Heaven just a little closer, and a whole lot sweeter. Although I have never met Mr Cosby having met his son Dr Cosby I can only imagine the caliber of man he is.
