Ocie E. Towery, Jr. – June 5, 2012


Ocie E Towery, Jr., 87, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Pastor Lance Herrington officiating.  Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Ocie Towery was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Ocie E. Towery, Sr. and Lois Childress Towery.  He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, LA.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the European and Asiatic theaters, including Normandy and Japan.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  He moved to Amarillo in 1947 and began work for Southwestern Public Service Company.  He married Josephine Appel on May 6, 1950.
He worked for Southwestern Public Service Company for 40 years and retired in 1986 as paymaster general.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer.  He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillian McKnight; a brother, Charles Wayne Towery; and a daughter, Cynthia Ann, who away in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Towery; a daughter, Nancy McLarty and husband Jim of Keller; five grandchildren, Amie Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Jason McLarty and wife Molly, Jaime McLarty, and Morgan Meads and husband Conor; two great-grandchildren, Kaegan and Braylee Lewis; three brothers, R.C., Felton, and Jimmy Towery; and a sister, Evelyn Ramsey.
The family suggests memorials be to Paramount Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 3801 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109; Odyssey Hospice, 7201 Evans Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106;           or to a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the funeral home.
