Norma Kay Peters Newkirk Kimbrell

Norma Kay Peters Newkirk Kimbrell, 78, of Amarillo, TX passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington, Saturday, June 15 at 1:00. p.m. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Ray Newkirk; mother and father, Vergil and Estine Peters;  brother, Bob Ed Peters and nephew, Ryan Peters.

She is survived by sister, Jan Edwards; brother, Doug Peters; daughter, Shelley Makovec and husband Gary, and son, Craig Newkirk.  Her grandchildren, McKenzie Makovec, Dalton Newkirk, and Colin Newkirk were the highlights of her life and she loved them more than anything. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and friend, Shirley Peters and nephew, Dallas Peters and wife, Tandra; nephew, John D. Peters; niece, Kristen Reneau, and husband, Bobby; great nephews Noah and Colter Reneau; John, Addison, Justice, Blaise, and Tristan Peters, and great-niece Cyan Peters.  Survivors also include family in Denver, Co., Mary Jane Groves, Lori Tavares, and Jennifer Smith.

She owned and operated Kincaid Upholstery which evolved into Kincaid Interiors.

She graduated with honors from Texas State Technical College with a Professional Certificate and Associates Degree in Interior Design.
She later taught Interior Design at Amarillo College and was instrumental in getting the Interior Design Program moved from the East Campus to the West Campus.  She retired from AC as Program Chair of Interior Design and Department Chair of additional programs.

She also owned and operated Illusions, an event planning business.  She was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.  She was a past president of ASID Panhandle Chapter.

She will be missed by many, including her Palo Duro Lunch Ladies.

  4. I was so blessed to meet Norma on three separate occasions . Beautiful precious lady. I know her moving to heaven leaves hearts that are hurting and missing her. I send hugs and prayers to her family.
