Norma Flowers George – May 6, 2012


Norma Flowers George, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, May 6, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Norma was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Perryton to S. Calvin and Myrtle Keith Flowers. She married Paul George on Feb. 25, 1950, in Perryton.  Norma lived and went to school in Perryton. After graduation, she attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Norma worked for Amarillo Public Schools, where she was an attendance clerk and a teacher’s aide at Horace Mann and as the attendance clerk at Carver. She was the secretary for the principal at River Road schools. She served as the PTA President in Amarillo and River Road schools. She also taught kindergarten for two years at a private school.
She was awarded a lifetime membership of the PTA. (The Texas Congress of Parents and Teacher Honorary Life Membership is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the Texas PTA honoring individuals for outstanding service for children and youth.
Norma was a charter member of Tascosa Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and children’s choir for many years.
Norma loved children and was always wanting to do things to help them.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Strickland and Louise Wright; and two brothers, Clyde Flowers and Keith Flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Paul George; a son, Paul Calvin George and wife Jennifer of Canton, Ga.; a daughter, Teresa Love and husband Rodney of Grand Prairie; four grandchildren, Chris George, April Shipman and husband Joe, Mac McCraw and wife Haley and Brandon McCraw and wife Nancy; and three great-grandchildren, David George, Logan Shipman and Claire McCraw.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 411 S. Fillmore St., Amarillo, TX 79101; Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc., 1033 Long Prairie Road, Suite 5, Flower Mound TX 75022-4230; or a favorite charity.
