Nancy Marliene “Marty” Smith, 79, of Canyon, TX passed away on February 11, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 15, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Private burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Nancy Marliene “Marty” Smith was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on August 12, 1941. The youngest child of Alvin and Elsie Crawford, Marty grew up in Las Cruces and Deming, New Mexico, with three older brothers and two older sisters. Marty graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1964 and taught elementary school for 31 years in several towns in New Mexico and Texas, impacting hundreds of children in public schools, Sunday schools, and vacation Bible schools with her kind, loving ways and deep faith in Jesus. Marty was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo and had served faithfully in numerous capacities over the years.

Marty married Calvin F. Smith on August 6, 1965 and celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2020. They have two daughters and nine grandchildren together. To Marty, being a faithful follower of Jesus, a wife, and a mother were the most important parts of her life. We honor her for her example of faithfulness, godliness, and love to us and all those around her. She has truly been an example to follow. Marty enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, and always kept an immaculate house.

Marty is survived by her husband, Cal, two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Contreras (Albert) and Ginger Tull (Rick) and nine grandchildren: Josiah and Emily Tull and Shea, Oliver, Cristina, Luke, Ella Rose (d.), and Maia Contreras and Jenni Money (Wesley). She also leaves behind her sister, Patricia Worley (Richard) and a niece and nephew who are very close to her, Janice Henderson (Rick) and Ronnie Stevens (Shirley).

The family would like to thank their friends in Christ at First Presbyterian for all of the prayers, friendship, and support during Marty’s illness. We would also like to thank Debbie Coleman for her friendship and loving care of Marty, as well as BSA Hospice, especially Pam and Kat for all of their wisdom, advice, and love.
