Minnie Smotherman Fortenberry – October 26, 2012

Minnie Smotherman Fortenberry, 84, of Adrian died on Friday, October 26, 2012.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Adrian with Dee Slocum officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. (MST) at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega.
Minnie was born on the family farm, South of Farwell, Texas to Francis H. Smotherman and Gladys Edwards Smotherman on October 11, 1928. She graduated from Texico High School. Minnie worked as a secretary at ASCS Farm Services from 1953 to 1961.  She met and married Roy Fortenberry in 1961. She had also worked at the Parmer County Hospital and Clinic in Friona and the Adrian Post Office. When she wasn’t tending to her children and grandchildren, she was an EMT for the Adrian EMS during the 1980’s.
Minnie’s hobbies were knitting, crocheting and needle work. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and she loved her Lord and family very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Roy Fortenberry, in January of 2009 and two older siblings, Dalia Lee and Francis E. Smotherman.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Jane Brown and husband Earl of Hereford, Betty Lynn Archambeau of Tampa, Florida and Patricia Siewert and husband Kent of Peaster, Texas; a son, Michael Fortenberry and wife Karen of Adrian; ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Adrian Baptist Church; the Adrian EMS, P.O. Box 14, Adrian, Texas 79001; or to the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd. Amarillo, TX 79106.
Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Boxwell Brothers at Vega.
